A walk through romantic canals to discover Venice’s countless bridges

The Bridge of the Spires is located in the Cannaregio sestiere.
It is the only Venetian bridge adorned with pinnacles, placed at the base of the handrails: the spires from which it takes its name. It was first built of wood, like most Venetian bridges, in 1285. It was replaced by the present stone bridge in 1580, as evidenced by inscriptions placed on the bridge itself. It was first restored in 1641 and 1677 and later rebuilt in 1823 with the addition of spires. In 1987 it was added a flat path with a metal handrail.
