The Straw Bridge is a bridge that crosses the Rio di Palazzo near the Doge’s Palace, connecting the pier of the St. Mark’s square with the Schiavoni bank, allowing an excellent view of the Bridge of Sighs and the entire St. Mark’s Basin, particularly towards the Basilica of Health. It is one of the bridges that mark the transition between St. Mark’s sestiere and Castle Sestiere. The name ” of Straw” derives from the boats laden with straw that used to moor there, as evidenced by some laws and ordinances of the Republic that prohibited this custom.
