An itinerary that rediscovers the Viking history of Dublin
Through a history of iron and bloodshed, this tour aims to follow the history of the Vikings, those infamous warriors who ventured into the green and desolate lands of Ireland. The term Viking is usually used to refer to those Norse warriors from Scandinavia and northern Germany who, aboard their infamous vessels known as ‘drakkars’, raided the coasts of the British Isles, including Ireland. The Vikings founded Dublin as a centre for commerce and the slave trade. The city is situated at the mouth of the River Liffey, in the centre of the island’s east coast, what is now known as the Dublin Region, overlooking the Irish Sea. It has been the capital of Ireland since medieval times. As a reminder of this ancient Nordic past, there are still examples and old remains waiting to be observed and discovered. This itinerary follows these Viking traces that have survived through time and aims to tell the story of Dublin under Viking lenses.
