The millennial history of Norcia

  • Norcia

  • Italy

Due to frequent earthquakes in the area, Norcia has been rebuilt repeatedly throughout its thousand-year history. Very little remains of the oldest buildings, and most of the current city layout, again hit by a strong earthquake in 2016, dates back to the 19th century. Nevertheless, the many stories and events that the city has witnessed over the centuries still remain as evidence of its prestigious past. A particular focus within this itinerary will be reserved for the stories of the city’s two original saints: St Scolastica and St Benedict, patron saint of Europe and protector of Europeans. We will walk through the streets of the ancient village along an itinerary aimed at discovering a unique combination of history and tradition.
