An itinerary that aims to discover Tomar, a small town with a strong connection to the ancient Templar Order.
It was 1095 CE when Pope Urban II called European rulers to arms to conquer places sacred to the Christian religion, initiating a dark historical period marked by the notorious Crusades. At the dawn of this warlike euphoria, the Templar order was born, characterised by warrior monks devoted to protecting holy Christian symbols. Through the streets of the Portuguese town of Tomar, we retrace the history of this ancient chivalry order shrouded in mysteries and legends. Founded in 1019 CE in Jerusalem, the Templar Order became a powerful religious and military organisation capable of making the thrones of several European sovereigns tremble. This walk aims to reveal the secrets and intrigues that led the Templars to settle in Portugal, especially here in Tomar.
